Counsellor / Team Leader

Bridging the Gap is seeking a qualified and multi skilled Counsellor in this newly created role to manage a small team whilst also having a small caseload themselves.

Bridging the Gap is an independent, not-for-profit, community organisation with a diverse range of professionals and programs working together to provide wrap around services for clients. Reporting to the CEO, this new role will be responsible for managing a small team of counsellors and psychotherapists and work directly with adolescents aged 12- 18 years and their families.  The role includes oversight of client intake, allocation, data capture and record management.  As Bridging the Gap is committed to the education of upcoming Psychologist/ Counsellors therefore you will oversee a small Intern Program.

The successful applicant will have a combination of work experience in Counselling and/or Psychology and also in Team Management. The role has scope to be innovative in growing the service and requires an experienced change manager.

The role is Part Time at 2 days per week, 15 hours per week and is based in St Marys. Hours of work are negotiable with late finishing two evenings per week.

Successful applicants will have:

  • Must have PACFA registration
  • Minimum 5 years’ counselling experience working with Adolescents and their Families
  • Trained and Experience in Family Systems Therapy and Trauma Informed Practice
  • Experience managing a team of professionals
  • Experience managing client intake and allocation, data collection and needs mapping
  • Thorough knowledge of Child Protection, Family Violence, Parental Drug and Alcohol Misuse, Parenting Skills, Learning Difficulties, Mental Health and Social Isolation
  • Knowledge of current Child Protection, Work Health & Safety and Privacy legislation
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working with Children Check clearance number

Other desirable criteria include:

  • Cultural competence in working with ATSI/CALD families
  • Working knowledge of services in the Penrith LGA
  • Computer literacy in Word, Excel, and Outlook
